President of ESBECAN Alumni Association visits Cuban Ambassador/ Designate at his residence.

Accra, 02/02/2025. - The routine of boring Sundays was broken when Ambassador Julio Enrique Pujol Torres received at the Cuban Residence in Ghana the President of the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba, ESBECAN, Philip Bentil, ‘Felipe’ as he is known to the Cubans.

The Electrical Engineer who graduated in Santiago de Cuba came to meet the newly appointed diplomat and to express his unconditional support for the Cuban Revolution and its heroic people. It was a pleasant and fruitful meeting in which the ‘Cubanito’ (as those Ghanaians who studied in Cuba call themselves) confessed that his heart belongs to the island.

More than 2,000 Ghanaians have graduated from various specialities in Cuban centres since the 1980s. Especially those who went from a very young age call themselves ‘Cubanitos’ because of the years they lived on the island and the love they profess for it. The name ESBECAN has its roots in the acronym of the student centres that first welcomed them: Escuelas Secundaria Básica en el Campo, ESBEC. (Junior High Schools in the Bush/Farm)
