Banjul, Feb 10th.- The President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, conveyed fraternal greetings to his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today, in a meeting to say Good bye to the outgoing ambassador of the Caribbean island in this West African nation, Rubén G. Abelenda.
In this meeting at the State House, Barrow told the diplomat that he plans to visit the largest of the Antilles soon, with a large delegation, to fulfill an invitation extended by his brother Díaz-Canel, and thus further strengthen the historical ties of cooperation between both states.
The president described the current ties of brotherhood between the two countries as very positive, and thanked the collaboration that Cuba has provided to the people of The Gambia for almost three decades, especially in the field of health.
Abelenda expressed his gratitude for having received him again, a fact that he considered a great honor.
He also stressed to the president that during his work as ambassador here he always received the support, hospitality and affection of the authorities and the Gambian people.
He also thanked him for the expressions of support and solidarity of this African nation with the oldest Caribbean archipelago in all international settings.
Officials from the State House and the permanent secretary (deputy minister) of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Lang Yabou, were present at the farewell meeting.
