Kingston, Jamaica, 5 February 2020. The President of the Senate of Jamaica, the Honourable Tom Tavares-Finson, CD, QC, JP, condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US Government against the Cuban people, on the occasion of the reception for the 61st Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, held last 31 January. Addressing guests on behalf of the Government of Jamaica, he highlighted the overwhelming rejection of the international community to this US unilateral policy, and expressed:
"At the United Nations, Jamaica and the rest of CARICOM stand resolute and continue to support UN General Assembly resolutions calling for the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on Cuba. This embargo continues to have a severe impact on the country’s growth and development and the well-being of its people. We are pleased therefore, with the overwhelming solidarity displayed by United Nations Member States during the tabling of the resolution in November 2019.".
In support of Cuba, Jamaica has voted for all resolutions condemning the blockade submitted by our country every year, since 1992, before the General Assembly of the United Nations.
