SRI LANKA, April 30, 2018. - The President of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Yemeen Abdul Gayoom, sent a message of congratulations to the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, on the occasion of his recent election.
The President of the Maldives reiterates the historic relations between Cuba and the Maldives, based on mutual respect and goodwill, while also hoping to further expand the lasting bonds of friendship between the Maldives and Cuba.
The full text of the message is as follows:
“Excellency,
It gives me great pleasure to extend on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, and my own behalf, warm congratulations and sincere good wishes to Your Excellency on your election as the President of the Republic of Cuba. Your victory reflects the firm belief that the people of Cuba have in you as their leader. I am confident that under your able leadership, Cuba would attain greater development and prosperity.
The Maldives and Cuba enjoy long-standing cordial relations based on mutual respect and goodwill, and I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency in further expanding the enduring ties of friendship between the Maldives and Cuba. I remain positive that the existing ties between our two countries will be go from strength to strength in the coming years.
