President of Mauritius receives Letters of Credence from Cuban Ambassador

Port Louis, February 27, 2026 – The President of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, today reaffirmed his support for Cuba in the face of the US blockade upon receiving the Credentials of the Cuban Ambassador, H.E. Ms. Susellys Pérez Mesa.

The leader of this African nation in the Indian Ocean stated that Cuba can count, as it has until now, on Mauritius's support against the sanctions.

The Ambassador briefed the President on the situation arising from Donald Trump's executive order to intensify the economic, commercial, and financial embargo of more than six decades with an attempt to block fuel supplies.

She also expressed her confidence that Port Louis will join the international condemnation of these actions, which violate international law and the UN Charter and constitute a threat to all sovereign nations.

During the ceremony, Gokhool and Pérez Mesa discussed potential areas of cooperation and joint initiatives, as well as their shared commitment to strengthening relations, particularly in the context of this year's 50th anniversary of bilateral ties.

The Ambassador reiterated Cuba's long-standing support for Mauritius' sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.

Earlier, Pérez Mesa had presented her Letters of Credence to the Mauritius Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Janmajaising Bissoondoyal.
