Vatican City, June 20, 2023. The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, paid a visit to the Holy See today, where he was received in a private audience by Pope Francis.
The exchange made it possible to verify the positive state of bilateral relations. Topics of interest on the international agenda were also addressed.
The Cuban side ratified its willingness to continue developing the ties between the two States, while recognizing the active role of the Supreme Pontiff in the search for solutions to the serious problems that affect humanity today, as well as the coincidence of criteria on issues such as the defense of international peace, nuclear disarmament, the protection of the environment, the promotion of solidarity and the fight against social exclusion, inequality and poverty.
The Cuban president also held a meeting with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
