Yaren, March 16, 2026 – President of Nauru, David Adeang, received Néstor Torres Olivera, in a formal audience today, where the diplomat presented his credentials as the official Ambassador to Nauru, resident in Fiji.
During a friendly dialogue, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding technical cooperation, especially in vital sectors such as health and human resource development, working together for the well-being and resilience of both nations.
Ambassador Torres Olivera conveyed fraternal greetings from President Miguel Díaz-Canel and recalled President Adeang’s successful 2024 visit to Cuba. He expressed a strong interest in advancing existing agreements, specifically the deployment of a Cuban medical brigade to Nauru.
The Cuban diplomat also briefed President Adeang on the current challenges facing Cuba, particularly fuel shortages resulting from President Donald Trump's executive order and potential tariffs on oil suppliers, in a criminal attempt to suffocate the Cuban people. Despite these pressures, he emphasized that Cuba maintains its annual program of 12 medical scholarships for Pacific Island nations.
President Adeang thanked the Cuban government for its ongoing support and expressed interest in extending cooperation into the construction sector. He reaffirmed Nauru’s support for the Cuban resolution against the U.S. blockade and extended a formal invitation for President Miguel Díaz-Canel to visit Nauru.
