Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, sent a message to the President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe in which he conveyed his condolences for the deaths and material losses due to the severe floods caused by the intense rains that had been taking place since December.
The weather situation worsened with the emergence of Hurricane Dineo in mid-February which was also accompanied by heavy rains and floods.
The situation in the affected areas and the amount of the losses suffered, estimated at about 200 million USD, caused the Zimbabwean government to declare a national disaster and to appeal to the international community for help to assist the victims.
