St. George, May 17. The president of the Senate of Grenada, Senator the Honorable Dr. Dessima Williams, received the Ambassador of Cuba in Grenada Mrs. Ivette Martínez Leyva at the Parliament House headquarters, in Mt Wheldale. During the friendly meeting, the head of the Upper House of Parliament expressed her admiration for the Cuban revolutionary work and her willingness to strengthen parliamentary ties. She also recognized the cooperation and training of human resources that Cuba has provided to Grenada.
The Cuban diplomat thanked the welcome, addressed the good state of bilateral relations and the need to deepen them in the parliamentary sphere, promoting the formation of a parliamentary friendship group with Cuba. She referred to previous initiatives where debates were held and statements were adopted rejecting the Cuba Blockade policy.
The Ambassador commented on the work of the Cuban Parliament and her activism not only at the national level, but also in parliamentary articulation spaces such as Parlatino and ParlAmericas. Dr. Dessima Williams, also being Vice President of the Parliament of the Americas, proposed to exchange more on topics of bilateral and regional interest that can be debated in this space.
On behalf of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, the diplomat reiterated the invitation to Cuba from President Estan Lazo to his Grenadian counterpart, who promised to reciprocate during the second half of the year. Recently, Senators Adrian Thomas, leader of the National Democratic Congress in the Senate, and David Andrew visited the island, as part of bilateral exchanges in the portfolios of Tourism and Education respectively.
The parliaments of Cuba and Grenada will work to strengthen their alliances always for the popular benefit and good management of their governments.
