President of the Senate meets with Cuban Ambassador

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, November 28th, 2017. The President of the Senate of Jamaica, Tomas Tavares Finson, welcomed, in courtesy visit, the Cuban Ambassador, Inés Fors Fernández.

The cordial meeting, held at the venue of the Parliament in Kingston, served to ratify the willingness of both parliaments and governments to continue strengthening the bilateral relations.

Tavares Finson reiterated the compromise of Jamaican legislators to maintain the support to the Cuban people in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States and recalled that last October 31st, a day before the historic voting of a resolution in United Nations, the Parliament of Jamaica adopted unanimously and for the ninth consecutive occasion, a motion against this cruel policy.

Likewise, the President of the Senate remembered his last visit to Cuba, accompanying Prime Minister Andrew Holness, to participate at the funerals of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The Cuban Ambassador praised the presence of Tavares Finson during those heartfelt days to tribute the Commander in Chief and expressed the confidence of her Government and people on the continuity of the solidarity and support of this sister Caribbean nation.

Furthermore, the Cuban diplomat expressed interest on the work carried out by the Friendship with Cuba Parliamentary Group and availed the opportunity to extend an invitation to Tavares Finson to visit Cuba.

The meeting was also attended by Heather Cooke, Clerk of the Parliament.
