At the residence of the new Japanese Ambassador, Yasushi Yamamoto, he delivered a welcoming address on the occasion of Emperor Naruhito's 66th birthday, using the opportunity to offer a toast and reaffirm his commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons and a future of regional prosperity.
For his part, President Ramos-Horta wished Emperor Naruhito good health and a long life, and emphasized the shared values of democracy, peace, and the rule of law that have united both nations for 24 years. He expressed his gratitude for the support received for Timor-Leste's accession to ASEAN, as well as the technical assistance provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Cuban Embassy in Timor-Leste also announced Timor-Leste's participation in the Ocean Summit of Island States and the Forum on the Future of Asia in Tokyo, scheduled for June 2026. The diplomatic corps was present at this meeting, where Ambassador Alina Aldama had the opportunity to meet with government officials, including the Minister of Education, Dulce de Jesús Soares, to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
