New York, March 20, 2024.- The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Dennis Francis, received, on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, Ambassador Gerardo Peñalver Portal, first vice minister of Foreign Affairs and permanent representative of Cuba before the United Nations, who concludes his diplomatic mission in New York.
During the meeting, held at the United Nations headquarters, both diplomatic authorities discussed issues of relevance to the General Assembly of the multilateral organization.
Ambassador Dennis Francis expressed his gratitude for Cuba's leadership and its ongoing commitment to multilateralism.
Peñalver Portal reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue actively participating in key negotiations and follow up on the agreements adopted during the last G-77 and China Summit in Havana.
In addition, he provided an update on the recent efforts of the United States government to collapse the Cuban economy, suffocate and cause hardship to the population and stimulate discontent and violent actions, despite which, the Caribbean diplomat assured, Cuba lives and work in peace to solve current problems.
The Cuban Vice Foreign Minister was accompanied at the meeting by First Secretary Richard Tur de la Concepción and Third Secretary Rosa Amelia Guerra.
