President of Vietnam Women Union (VWA), Ha Thi Nga, and the Head of the Cuban Mission, Lianys Torres Rivera, reviewed in Hanoi the state of cooperation between women organizations of both countries.
Thi Nga emphasized the special ties between Vietnam and Cuba and expressed her willingness to continue promoting binational relation during her tenure as Head of VWA.
When mentioning the historical landmarks that link the two countries, the leader of VWO recalled that, on May 19, Vietnam commemorated the 130th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh´s birth, the same day that Cubans paid tribute to José Martí on the 125th anniversary of his passing away.
The National Hero of Cuba (José Martí) was the first person to introduce Vietnam and its culture to the Cuban and Latin American people, when he wrote in 1889 the story "Un paseo por la tierra de los anamitas," said the host leader.
On the occasion, Torres Rivera reiterated the Embassy's support for strengthening relations between VWU and the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), especially in the year 2020, when Vietnam and Cuba celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations with a a leading role by women from both countries.
VWU and FMC signed the first cooperation agreement in 2018, in order to deepen relations, characterized by the regular exchange of delegations and experiences on issues such as promotion of gender equality in both countries.
During the meeting, the VWA recognized the work of the Deputy Head of the Cuban Mission, Nancy Coro Aguiar, who concludes her functions in Vietnam.
