Press in Indonesia reflects the closure of the 8th Congress of the PCC and election of the Cro. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez as First Secretary

Jakarta, April 20- The Bahasa-language daily Republik Merdeka published an article highlighting the closure of the 8th. Congress of the Comunist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the election of Cro. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez as First Secretary of the PCC.

Citing a report from Prensa Latina, the text highlights what was expressed by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz: "Díaz-Canel is not the result of improvisation, but of a thoughtful selection of a young revolutionary with the conditions to be promoted to higher positions" . It also states that this election marks the end of six decades of government by the brothers Fidel and Raúl Castro, classifying them as the guides of the Cuban Revolution of 1959 and noting that later, Raúl carried out a generational change in the leadership of the nation.

The article refers to the fact that during the opening of the Congress, last Friday, April 17, Raúl Castro had confirmed that he was handing over the solid leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba to a young generation full of enthusiasm.

At one point in the text, he makes an aside to delve into the figure of Cro. Díaz-Canel, referring to the fact that he has been president of the island since 2018 when Raúl Castro left his executive portfolio, so that from his recent election, in addition to the presidency, he will also have the greatest responsibility in the nation, as First Secretary of the PCC of the Communist Party of Cuba, limiting, a position previously held only by Raúl Castro and Fidel.

The text described the ovation of the delegates as Díaz-Canel approached the stage, hugged Raúl and gave a speech in which he expressed that the Cuban Revolution was alive and well amidst the storms that shook the world, while promising consult Raúl on "strategic decisions for the future of the nation"

"The Army General will always be present because he is the point of reference for every Cuban communist."

On his part, Raúl said that he will continue "to serve as one more revolutionary fighter, ready to make my modest contribution until the end of life.

In the final part of the document, he notes that prior to Raúl Castro, Fidel had led Cuba for almost half a century and to this day the Cuban people still remember him as a highly respected revolutionary figure, as a 'father' and defender of the country.

With this historic generational change, the 8th Congress of the PCC becomes a milestone in the continuity of the Cuban revolutionary process and the reaffirmation of the socialist social and economic development model.
