Cuba opens the way to the "New Normality"
Today, November 15, and after the harsh scourge of Covid-19, the reopening of the country is a time of celebration for Cuba.
It is the occasion for the well-deserved homage of our people to their tireless healthcare workers, their devoted scientists and all those who have contributed to bring the pandemic under control.
Having achieved a massive vaccination campaign using Cuban vaccines, we are already conducting studies aimed at applying additional booster shots in the coming months.
In recent weeks, with a significant drop in the number of infected and dead people, students and teachers have been preparing to return safely to the classrooms. More than 90 % of the students who return to school today do so having completed the vaccination schedule. This day is also a celebration for our children and their parents, teachers and professors.
At the same time, the country opens its borders and prepares to continue taking actions to boost the economy. In a few hours we will welcome 400 international flights a week. We will continue to move forward with the launch of micro, small and medium-sized state and private enterprises. Social and economic activities will also resume.
However, there is more than one reason for the celebrations to be responsible and restrained. New outbreaks of the pandemic are still occurring in many parts of the world, in the midst of a crisis caused by the economic paralysis. We must face that risk and achieve lasting success.
Havana, capital of the Cubans, will await its 502nd anniversary, to celebrate as it was not able to do it in 2020.
National life will resume its course, with the greatest joy, but alert. The peace and harmony that distinguish life in our streets will continue to reign, and no one will be able to stop it because Cuba is Alive.
