New York, September 21, 2017. The aggressive behavior and unilateralism, especially of the United States government, pose dangers and inevitable dilemmas not only for the Non-Aligned nations, but for humanity, said Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, at the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordinating Bureau, held in the framework of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, this September 20.
The Cuban Minister stated that US imperialism intensifies its aggressive actions to threaten the right to self-determination, peace and development of Movement's member states, which was clear after the statement by President Donald Trump at the UNGA General Debate.
He also pointed out that multilateralism and international cooperation, in strict compliance with international law, are essential to face challenges such as climate change, international terrorism, underdevelopment and violations of the sovereignty of States.
The representative of Cuban diplomacy expressed the consequences of the implementation of concepts not universally recognized such as "limited sovereignty", "humanitarian intervention", "preventive war" and "responsibility to protect" by the powers, especially by the United States, which are used to mask interventionist and aggressive actions, including recent unilateral sanctions on the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro Moros.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba recalled that the essence of Non-Alignment implies the unequivocal, categorical and direct rejection of the threats of the use of force and the use of force against any of the Movement's member states; which means not to remain neutral in the face of the threat of military intervention or destruction against any of its member states.
Referring to the US blockade against Cuba, he said that it continues to be implemented with full rigor, ignoring the systematic and overwhelming demand of the international community to end it immediately.
While appreciating the support of the Non-Aligned Movement to Cuba for many decades in the fight against the blockade, he reiterated that on November 1, the draft resolution entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba" will be presented again at the UN General Assembly.
