Press Release: Cuba calls for prioritizing the small island states of the Caribbean affected by Hurricane Irma, in the mobilization of international aid.

New York, September 18, 2017.Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, called for prioritizing, in the mobilization of international aid, those States and territories that, due to their small size, small population and limited capacity to generate their own resources, will face the greatest challenges in the recovery after Hurricane Irma.

During his statement at the High-Level Meeting in solidarity with the countries affected by Hurricane Irma, convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the General Assembly, the Cuban Foreign Minister gave brief information on the severe damages caused by Hurricane Irma to Cuba and reaffirmed the will of the Cuban Government to use all the necessary resources to ensure that no Cuban citizen is left unprotected, as has always been customary throughout the Cuban Revolution.

Rodríguez Parrilla took the occasion to thank for the several expressions of solidarity with Cuba and offers of assistance received from governments, parliaments, international organizations and the civil society.

The Cuban Minister, while expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased and the victims, to the people and authorities of all the territories affected, reiterated Cuba's solidarity and willingness to cooperate with the peoples and governments of the countries affected by the hurricane.
