Press Release: Cuba demands the cessation of the radio-electronic aggressions of the United States against our country and the immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade.

New York, 20 October 2017.  During her statement at the General Debate of the Fourth Committee on Questions Related to Information of the 72ndSession of the UN General Assembly, Cuban Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo demanded the cessation of the radio-electronic aggressions of the United States against our country, stressing that as of July 2017 illegal transmissions averaged 1890 hours.

At the same time, she demanded the immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade, major obstacle for the development of the communications and information sector. Last year, damages on this field amounted to 68,922,110 dollars.

The Cuban representative explained that despite the blockade, Cuba has been able to develop information-related skills and knowledge, through the information and communication technologies. This, she stressed, has been the result of the curricula implemented in our country at all educational levels, as well as of the ongoing process of Computerization of the Society. All of that demonstrates the strong determination of the Cuban Government to develop a well-rounded society capable of facing up the current demands of the Information Society.

Rodríguez Camejo reiterated that the use of information and communication technologies must be fully consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, particularly the principles of sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs and internationally recognized standards of civil coexistence amongst States.

She concluded reaffirming Cuba’s commitment to promoting the establishment of a new, more just and equitable global information and communication order.
