Press Release: Cuba deposits instrument of ratification to “The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety”.

New York, 26 April 2017. -The United Nations Organization headquarters hosted the ceremony for the deposit of the instrument of ratification of the Republic of Cuba to “The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety”.

The deposit ceremony was held with the presence of the Director of the UN Treaty Division, Mr. Santiago Villalpando, who received this instrument and, on behalf of the Secretary-General, expressed appreciation for Cuba’s adherence to this treaty.

During the ceremony, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the Organization, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, expressed the importance of the instrument in the efforts of the international community to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, taking also into account the risks for human health and providing international norms and procedures as regards liability and redress of living modified organisms.

Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations and Tanieris Diéguez,official in charge of legal affairs at the Cuban Mission to the United Nations, were also part of the ceremony.
