Press Release: Cuba deposits instrument of ratification to the “Paris Agreement in the Framework Convention on Climate Change”.

New York, 28 December 2016.-The United Nations Organization headquarters hosted the ceremony for the deposit of the instrument of ratification of the Republic of Cuba to the “Paris Agreement in the Framework Convention on Climate Change”, adopted on 22 April, 2016.

The Deposit Ceremony was held with the presence of Mrs. Arnacha Hinojal, Acting Director of the UN Treaty Division, who received this instrument and, on behalf of the Secretary-General, expressed appreciation for Cuba’s adherence to this treaty.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the Organization, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, expressed the importance of the Convention in the efforts of the international community to minimize the harm caused by man to nature and the direct implications on the environment. The diplomat noted that the Convention offers a significant contribution to the struggle for the survival of the human species and recalled the premonitory words uttered by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, at the Rio de Janeiro Conference, as early as 1992.    

The official in charge of legal issues at the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, Tanieris Diéguez, was also part of the ceremony. (Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations)
