Press Release: Cuba highlights the role of the United Nations Population Fund and its working results in Cuba.

New York, 25 January 2018. The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, participated in the segment dedicated to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) at the first session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

During her statement, she acknowledged UNFPA's dedication and efforts in striving for the empowerment of women, adolescents and youth and in the area of sexual and reproductive health, despite the limited financial resources facing the entity. She also highlighted the results of the cooperation and work of this United Nations Fund on the island.

The Cuban diplomat called for continued attention and support to the so-called "middle-income" group of countries, which still face issues and challenges to achieve sustainability of the commitments made under the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, especially those related to population and development, as well as the eradication of poverty.

Rodriguez Camejo concluded her statement by expressing her confidence in the United Nations Development System in general, and the Population Fund in particular, which play an important role in addressing the particular development needs of nations and contributing to their achievement of sustainable development goals.
