“Peace is no utopia but a legitimate right of each human being and of all peoples.”
New York, 18 November 2016. Previous to the adoption of draft resolutionA/C.3/71/L.29 “Declaration on the right to peace”, at the Third Committee, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Luis Alberto Amorós Núñez, conveyed today Cuba’s aspiration, on behalf of the cosponsors, to put an end to the “drought” of over 70 years regarding the recognition of the right to peace at the United Nations Organization.
“May the right to peace be recognized, promoted and guaranteed and the appropriate environment will be set up to meet the commitment of ‘leaving nobody behind’, underscored the Cuban diplomat after confirming the adoption of such a text as “a moral imperative”, which aims at sending a strong message of commitment with the promotion and protection of the right to peace and the lives of millions of people in the planet.
In such a way, he encouraged all delegations to support this draft resolution and send an unequivocal message in favor of peace by adopting it by consensus. (Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations)
