New York, September 12, 2017. During his statement at the Second Regular Session 2017 of the Executive Board of UNICEF, Cuban representative Carlos Fidel Martín Rodríguez, Deputy Director of the Division of International Economic Bodies of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX, Spanish acronym) expressed Cuba's willingness to make available to the Caribbean countries affected by Hurricane Irma, and in particular to UNICEF, the experiences acquired in managing disasters and epidemics. He stated that this was in order to continue strengthening South-South Cooperation, based on Cuban comparative advantages, mainly in the fields of health care, education and protection of children and adolescents in disaster situations.
In the framework of UNICEF, the Cuban delegate stressed the unchangeable principle of the Cuban revolutionary government: the government will not leave any child, adolescent or their families defenseless, guaranteeing them health care, education and due protection, despite the permanence of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, and of the recent complex and adverse climatological situations affecting the country.
