New York, 29 June 2017. At the“United Nations Forum to Mark 50 Years of Occupation”, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, noted that achieving stable and lasting peace to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in all its aspects, is of priority for Cuba, for the majority of the international community and the Non-Aligned Movement, among them.
The Cuban representative highlighted it is regretful and alarming that the UN Security Council, organ in charge of keeping international peace and security, has not been able to reach an agreement to put an end to Israeli aggressive policies and colonizing practices and thus, prevent ongoing injustices and the violation of the rights of a whole people.
In this way, she reiterated Cuba’s call upon the Security Council to comply with the responsibilities enshrined to it in the UN Charter, in keeping international peace and security. Likewise, she welcomed regional and international efforts carried out to resume peace talks between Israel and Palestine.
In concluding, Rodríguez Abascal reaffirmed Cuba’s permanent solidarity with the Palestinian people, together with the millions of people worldwide that demand the end of the prolonged, unjust and illegal Israeli occupation in Palestinian territories, in compliance with the norms and principles of international law and relevant resolutions adopted at the United Nations.
