New York, September 6, 2017. During his intervention at the last meeting of the Committee on Relations with the Host Country at the United Nations, Rolando Vergara Zito, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN, called, once again, to eliminate the policies of restriction of movement to diplomats that United States, as host country of the organization, imposes to representatives of a number of diplomatic Missions.
The Cuban diplomat described the measures as unjust, selective, discriminatory and politically-motivated, while openly contravening the Host Country's obligations contained in the Headquarters Agreement and customary rules of Diplomatic Law. They are also contraries to the general rule on free circulation of diplomats and generate additional problems for the right exercise of diplomacy.
At the same time, he advocated for the respect for diplomatic properties and unequivocally rejected any act that violates diplomatic immunity of both, premises and diplomatic agents.
