Press Release: Cuba reiterates its commitment with international cooperation in favor of financing for development.

New York, 23 May 2017. As part of the Forum on Financing for Development under the auspices of ECOSOC, and after remembering the validity of the address by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, at the UN General Assembly in October 1979, the Minister Counselor of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jorge Alberto Ferrer, considered with figures the way in which international order inequalities are increasing, despite the commitments of the Addis Ababa Agenda.

The Cuban representative expressed there are still unilateral coercive measures against developing countries, despite the multiple resolutions aiming at the promotion of a universal, rule-based, open, inclusive and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system. Hence, he reiterated the persistence of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States of America against Cuba for more than 50 years, which affects the economic and social development of the Cuban people and, consequently, their right to development.

Before concluding, he reiterated once again Cuba’s commitment and political will towards international cooperation, with discussions and tangible achievements in terms of financing for development.
