New York, September 22, 2017. "Cuba will never accept any imposition nor will it ever renounce any of its principles," reaffirmed Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, in response to the disrespectful, offensive and interventionist statement against Cuba and the Cuban government made three days ago by President Donald Trump.
In his statement at the General Debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the Cuban Foreign Minister also denounced the US government's decision to tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and announced that on November 1st the delegation of the island will once again present to the General Assembly of the United Nations the draft resolution entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba", expression of the legitimate claim of the Cuban people, who will continue denouncing the tightening of that policy despite the threats of the imperialist neighbor.
Rodríguez Parrilla also addressed topics of regional and international interest such as Cuba's support for Venezuela and Nicaragua in the face of the recent interventionist and anti-Latin American maneuvers of the US government; the demand for a fair and differentiated treatment for the islands of the Caribbean and the Pacific, highly affected by climate change; the need for a peaceful and negotiated solution to the war in Syria, without any foreign interference and with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity; the claim of independence of the people of Puerto Rico; the need for a peaceful and lasting solution to the crisis in the Middle East based on the respect for the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination; among other issues of the international agenda.
In addressing the reform process of the UN Secretary-General, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba recalled that it should be proposed as an essential goal that the United Nations respond to the pressing needs of the peoples and the most disadvantaged majorities, protecting and reinforcing multilateralism in the face of the imperialist interests of domination and hegemony. He also called for respect for the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity of States and non-interference in their internal affairs; rejecting any reinterpretation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
In concluding his statement, he said: "While inequality, the opulence of a few and the marginalization of many are growing in today’s world, the Cuban people will continue their struggle to achieve the most just society possible. We will continue to steadily advance down the path of revolutionary transformations that has been sovereignly chosen by all Cubans to further improve our socialism."
