New York, 22 May 2017. The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, participated today in the Symposium on Cuba-US bilateral relations, held at NYU King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center.
Rodríguez Camejo took part in the panel of experts entitled: “Cuba and the U.S.: Relations and Relationships”, also joined by the US Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN), Angela Mariana Freyre, Former National Security Special Advisor on Cuba Policy during the Obama Administration and Ted Piccone, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, who enrolled as moderator.
During the exchange, the Cuban Representative addressed the current state of the bilateral relations between both countries, its perspectives, stressing Cuba’s willingness to continue making progress towards a civilized relationship, based upon equality, reciprocity and respect for the sovereignty and independence of the Cuban people.
Within this context, she referred to the main stages of this process since its beginning, as well as the challenges yet to overcome, with particular emphasis upon the necessity to definitely lift the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States for over 50 years, which is still in force and continues to be the greatest obstacle for its economic development, and to advance in the process of normalization of bilateral relations, she noted.
