Press Release: At Executive Board 2017, Cuba highlights the praiseworthy work of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in our country.

New York, 5 June 2017. At segment of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and 2017 Annual Session of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS, the Deputy Director of International Economic Bodies at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Carlos Fidel Martín Rodríguez, after joining on behalf of Cuba, GRULAC´s tribute to Dr. Babatunde on his regrettable decease, recognized the high dedication and efforts carried out  by UNFPA in the struggle for the empowerment of women, adolescents and youth, as to sexual and reproductive health, despite its limited financial resources.

Martín Rodríguez underscored the need that UNFPA keeps drawing attention and support to the so-called group of countries of “middle-income”, still facing considerable difficulties as regards elimination of poverty and the commitment of leaving nobody behind.

Likewise, he acknowledged the work carried out by UNFPA in consolidating its 2018-2021 Strategic Plan, with hopes that its adoption becomes effective during the second regular session of 2017.
