New York, 3 August 2017. At the invitation of theMajor of the City of New York, Mr. Bill de Blasio, the Representatives of the Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassadors Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo and Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, participated today in the reception “Harlem: Home Of Immigrants, Honoring New York’s International Diversity”, an event celebrating the friendship and cooperation ties between Harlem and Havana.
Participants in the event were addressed by several speakers. Among them was the President of the Harlem Chamber of Commerce and the Director of the Museum of Natural History of New York, who acknowledged the success and excellence of the exhibit ¡Cuba!, which has been portraying scenes of Cuban biodiversity, in the well-known New York museum, from November 2016 and until 13 August, in collaboration with the Museum of Natural History in Havana.
While greeting and speaking to the Major of the City, Mr. Bill de Blasio and the First Lady, Mrs. Chirlane McCray, the Cuban Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez appreciated the city efforts to take to Havana a replica of the equestrian statue of the Cuban hero José Martí, a work of the US sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington, located since 1950 in New York Central Park.
The event, enliven with our traditional Guantanamera, is part of Harlem Week 2017, featuring the second year of the Harlem/Havana Festival with artists, designers, dance companies, chefs and performers bringing their art to Harlem, from Havana.
