New York, October 30, 2017. The opposition to the blockade has a universal character at an international level, which is increasingly shown in different scenarios. Listed below are some examples:
At the General Debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly last September, 37 heads of delegations spoke out against the blockade, including 14 Heads of State or Government.
At the UNGA, on October 26, 2016, at the debate on the resolution entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba", 42 speakers from all regions of the world called for the immediate lifting of the blockade, among them there were 7 representatives of coordination groups and regional and subregional organizations. On the same day, the General Assembly unanimously adopted such resolution: 191 votes in favor and only 2 abstentions, the United States and Israel.
The international community, gathered in various forums, condemned the blockade against Cuba and demanded its lifting, among such forums stand out:
§ The 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (September 17-18, 2016, Isla Margarita, Venezuela);
§ The 25th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government (October 28-29, 2016, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia);
§ The Fifth Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (January 24-25, 2017, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic);
§ The 28th Summit of the Organization of the African Union (January 30-31, 2017, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)
§ The 41st Annual Ministerial Meeting of the G77 and China (September 22, 2017, United Nations, New York), among others.
To these denunciations were added the statements made by parliaments, political parties and governmental and intellectual personalities. In this regard, the Senate of the Dominican Republic, the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, the National Assembly of Ecuador, the Parliament of Portugal, the Parliament of Jamaica and the Senate of the Russian Federation expressed their rejection and condemnation to the blockade.
These statements show that Cuba is not alone and that the blockade is a failed policy whose immediate lifting is demanded worldwide.
