New York, 17 May 2017. The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, met with students and professors of the intermediate-level program fostering the training of junior diplomats (#NYCJuniorAmbassadors) at “Christa McAuliffe School (I.S. 187)”, under the invitation of NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs.

After a first welcoming exchange with the Principal of the institution, Mr. Justin Berman, professors and some students, the Cuban diplomat offered to a group of students a wide-range overview on Cuba, describing the historical underground of its foreign policy and highlighting our internationalism, solidarity, antimperialism and unity among the peoples, as core values of our projection towards other countries worldwide.

The representative of the diplomatic Mission considered Cuba’s multilateral priorities and stressed issues, such as the promotion of all human rights for all, gender equality, sustainable development and international cooperation, among others.

As part of her presentation, the Ambassador offered an update of the state of the bilateral relations between Cuba and the United States, underscoring the will of the Cuban Government to continue advancing towards their strengthening, under the basis of equality, reciprocity and respect for independence and sovereignty of the Cuban people. While referring to the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for over 50 years, she insisted upon the need of its total elimination and explained it represents the greatest obstacle for Cuba’s economic development and has been, and is, a source of suffering and limitations for the Cuban people, in different spheres of life.

The meeting also included a Q & A session with the students on these topics and others related to Cuba’s current reality, as well as those referring to the diplomatic career.
