New York, 26 July 2017. The Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations celebrated the 64th anniversary of the assaults to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Garrisons, with the presence of Permanent Representatives of Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), members of solidarity groups with Cuba and Cubans who work at the international organization.
On behalf of ALBA, the representatives of Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua praised the example of Cuba and its leaders as a beacon, inspiration and support to the just causes of Latin America.
Concluding with a moving ¡Viva Cuba! and, in the name of the solidarity movement with the Cuban nation, the representative of the organization “July 26th Coalition”, Frank Vergara, highlighted the significance of the date and the role of the Cuban Revolution as a driving force of the solidarity movements.
Within her appreciation and welcoming remarks, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, pointed out the continuity of the Cuban socialist project, the bond of all generations of Cubans to it, as well as Cuba’s solidary and unwavering support to Latin America’s progressive and revolutionary forces.
Likewise, the Cuban diplomat underscored the validity of the ideal of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, whose vision of freedom led him to the assaults of the garrisons in 1953 -at the time of the Batista's tyranny- and move towards a Revolution of the humble and for the humble.
The commemorative ceremony set the occasion for the screening of the documentary ‘Un viaje con Fidel’, by the well-known US filmmaker Jon Alpert, on the Commander-in-Chief’s visit to the United Nations in 1979, in his capacity as President of the Non-Aligned Movement.
