Press Release: At the United Nations, Cuba continues carrying out actions in favor of disarmament.

New York, 5 June 2017. At the third and last session of the open-ended working group on the fourth special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, made reference to the active work of the Cuban nation, not only in its national capacity but also within the Non-Aligned Movement, to convene a fourth special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament. In such context, she remembered the  thinking and profound pacifist nature of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

In this regard, the Cuban representative underscored the convening of such session would provide an opportunity to reaffirm the validity of the guiding principles and priorities agreed at the first special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament; as well as to examine the most crucial aspects in the area of disarmament, including nuclear disarmament, which remains the major priority and immediate aim, in a manner consistent with the current international situation. In such efforts, she reiterated the full support and cooperation of the Cuban delegation.
