Press Release: United Nations recognizes Cuba for its contribution to the Organization’s budget in 2018.

New York, February 20, 2018. During the briefing by the Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, held at noon on February 19, Cuba's contribution to the United Nations was recognized, having paid in full its assessed contribution to the Organization's regular budget for 2018. Including the island, there are 53 nations that have fulfilled this important financial obligation.

Moreover, Cuba has completed payment for most of its contributions to the Peacekeeping Operations budget, among other financial commitments that it upholds with the United Nations.

It comes as a contrast that a small developing island, commercially, economically and financially blocked by the world's largest power, fulfills its duties to the United Nations, while powerful nations cut their budget destined to the Organization or keep it under financial blackmail.

Cuba keeps a policy of respect for multilateralism and for the representation, inclusion and participation of United Nations Member States in all its forums and debates. Its financial input to this global organization constitutes one of its contributions to the development and proper functioning of the United Nations.
