New York, May 30, 2018. The General Assembly of the United Nations held on May 30 the Youth Dialogue with the objective of recognizing the role of young people as promoters of peace and development. The meeting was attended by Yilianne Sánchez Rodríguez, Diplomatic Attaché of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the world organization.
In her statement, the young diplomat explained how young Cubans build day by day the future of their socialist and revolutionary nation. She highlighted the achievements of the Cuban revolution that granted the right to life, education, health care and employment to all its citizens, regardless of class or race.
She stated that the current Cuba is very different from the one before January 1, 1959, where in a population of more than 11 million inhabitants, more than one million university students have graduated; the country is internationally recognized for being a paradigm in education and in universal health coverage, excelling with a life expectancy of almost eight decades and an infant mortality rate of 4.0 per thousand live births, a figure lower than that registered in many developed countries.
Sánchez Rodríguez acknowledged that all these achievements have been possible thanks to the will of the Government and the conviction of the Cuban people to continue preserving the achievements attained.
