Prestigious jurists from Europe and the United States are part of the International Tribunal against the economic blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba more than 60 years ago.
According to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the conclave will take place on November 16 and 17 in Brussels, capital of Belgium.
This Tribunal has the support of these representatives of legal organizations from Spain, Germany, Italy, Greece, Belgium and the United States, said the president of ICAP, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, at a press conference held on Thursday.
Norman Paech, member of the Democratic Society of Jurists and an important reference in the German justice system and in the defense of just causes around the world, will be the main judge, said the president of ICAP.
González Llort emphasized to the press the value of the action, because although it is a Tribunal of political character and not legally binding, the dossier with the complaints, previously documented and the final opinion will be printed and distributed digitally to European and UN political figures, later on.
Therefore, it will become a fundamental working tool for social and solidarity organizations, journalists, opinion leaders and politicians in the struggle to eradicate this genocidal policy, he predicted.
In addition, he said, it will add new voices to the defense of democratic rights, sovereignty and freedom of peoples.
The president of ICAP stressed that Brussels was chosen as the court because it is the seat of the European Union and at the same time is a place with a network of institutions established to protect the rights of its citizens, who are also affected due to the extraterritorial nature of the blockade and, therefore, see their sovereignty violated.
The participating jurists will present oral and written arguments to denounce how the economic, commercial and financial blockade violates the fundamental rights to life, health, food, education and culture, among others, of the Cuban people, informed Rigoberto Zarza Ross, Director of Europe at ICAP.
It also constitutes a violation of international law, freedom of trade and democracy of other peoples, he added.
Representatives of solidarity organizations, businessmen, personalities and Cubans living in Europe, among others, will also participate as witnesses, Zarza Ross explained.
He pointed out that they will offer their testimonies as victims of the extraterritorial effects of this hostile policy and the unilateral coercive measures derived from the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that according to Washington are sponsors of terrorism.
Official data indicate that at present the losses due to the accumulated damages caused by the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba exceed 150,410 million dollars and taking into account the depreciation of the US currency against gold, the figure reaches one trillion dollars.
