Prime Minister of Barbados receives the new Cuban Ambassador

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Honourable Freundel Stuart, received in courtesy visit to the new Ambassador of Cuba, Francisco Fernández Peña. In his welcoming remarks highlighted the high meaning for his country bilateral historical ties and recalled the courage it took for the whole region the act of establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba 42 years ago, in the days of the Cold War, with a common neighbor so powerful. The Premier highlighted the struggle against the blockade of Cuba in Barbados will continue to support, despite which the island has never abandoned their commitment to solidarity with the Caribbean region, or the rest of the world, as currently demonstrated by his outstanding contribution in the fight against Ebola in Africa. In that context, he noted how the Cuban people has strengthened its character as a nation to face many difficulties achieving succeed, which considered part of the legacy of their national hero, José Martí, who paraphrased saying that "the real man does not look at what side lives better, but on which side lies duty "to then add that" a just principle from a cave can be more than an army ".

Recognizing the importance of relations between Cuba and the CARICOM countries, the premier confirmed their attendance at the upcoming V Summit in Havana, whose results have full confidence because concerted mutually beneficial to the entire region action will be taken.
The Ambassador Cuban thanked the warm and cordial welcome extended to him the highest authorities of Barbados on arrival and reaffirmed its commitment to work hard to move towards new achievements in bilateral relations. He also reiterated his gratitude for the continued support of Barbadian government to fight for the lifting of the blockade and stressed the importance of assistance from the Barbadian Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Caribbean come together in the Greater Antilles.
