PHNOM PENH, October 18, 2024.The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, received the ambassador of Cuba, Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra, to whom he conveyed the kingdom's commitment to continue promoting bilateral relations based on the historical ties of friendship between both peoples and governments.
At the meeting held at the Peace Palace, the parties ratified their commitment to the founding principles of diplomatic ties, based on the feelings of affection and respect shared by the King Father, Norodom Sihanouk and Fidel Castro Ruz. They agreed to highlight the firm commitment to peace, the defense of sovereignty and respect for the self-determination of peoples as solid pillars of friendship.
They also reviewed the government agreements and consensuses adopted as part of the high-level dialogue and they highlighted progress in bilateral cooperation while ratifying the will to expand and diversify ties in areas of mutual interest, such as health, education and agriculture.
Hun Manet highlighted the excellent relations and cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the positive holding of the III Meeting of Political Consultations between Cuba and Cambodia in Havana and Cuba's support during the organization of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the 12th ASEAN Paralympics Games 2023.
The head of government also ratified support for the implementation of the signed memoranda and the development of its diplomatic management in Cambodia, ensuring the solidarity support of the Asian nation for the Caribbean island both in the bilateral and multilateral spheres, for more than 64 years.
The Cuban ambassador, on her turn, conveyed to the prime minister the commitment to work together with the institutions of the kingdom to continue expanding the areas of cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
She appreciated the expressions of solidarity towards the Cuban people and Cambodia's traditional position against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba.
Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra was accompanied by the First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Cambodia, Yoneski Armenteros Gutiérrez. On the Cambodian side, the Secretaries of State, Sophea Eat and Chum Sounry, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation were also present.
