The Embassy of Cuba in Fiji commemorated Cuban National Day and February 24 and was honored with the presence of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Fiji, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
The Ambassador of Cuba, José Manuel Galego Montano, in his speech to Fijian officials, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Suva, Cuban residents and friends in general, thanked the presence of the Prime Minister and gave a detailed explanation about the history and state of relations between Cuba and the United States. He emphasized how the criminal blockade against our country has a direct impact on the daily life of the Cuban people, and has been has been condemned by the international community, expressed in the UNGA, which each year, almost unanimously, approves the resolution “Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”
Galego thanked the governments of the Pacific Islands for their favorable votes and called on them to respond to the letter from the UN Secretary General regarding compliance with said resolution, condemn the inclusion of Cuba on the list of States sponsoring terrorism and to maintain their position against the blockade.
In turn, he highlighted Cuba's support for the Pacific Islands States, in all international forums, especially in their battle against the effects of climate change that threaten the physical existence of their territories.
For her part, the Head of Protocol of the Fijian Foreign Ministry, Kiti Temo, when speaking, congratulated the Cuban government and people for the celebration, while recognizing the help provided by Cuba to Fiji and the Pacific Islands in the training of doctors and other professionals, as well as the contribution of Cuban doctors to the public health of those countries. He ended his speech with a “Viva Cuba” in Spanish, which was supported by those present.
