Prime Minister highlights the relevance of solidarity between Grenada and Cuba in difficult times

Grenadian media reported recent statements by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening international partnerships, including the historic bond with Cuba, within the framework of a renewed agenda for Caribbean economic stability and development.

In this regard, Mitchell provided information about the hundreds of Grenadian students currently pursuing studies in Cuba in fields such as engineering, veterinary science, and health. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Cuban government due to the energy and economic crisis but stressed that the students remain in the country and continue their training. He expressed gratitude for the decades of support provided by Cuba and assured that his administration is closely monitoring the situation to guarantee the safety and academic progress of all Grenadian youth enrolled in Cuban institutions.

Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Grenada were formally established in April 1979, following the triumph of the Grenadian Revolution led by Maurice Bishop. Since then, both countries have maintained close cooperation in multiple areas, marked by the construction of the Maurice Bishop International Airport with Cuban support in the 1980s and the training of hundreds of Grenadian professionals in Cuban universities. Over more than four decades, solidarity has been a constant pillar of this relationship, with medical brigades and infrastructure projects leaving a lasting impact on Grenada’s development.
