New York, EE.UU., 27 September 2021. The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, called last Friday for the lifting of the US blockade against Cuba, in his address at the High Level segment of the 76th Period of Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In his remarks, the Jamaican Prime Minister stated: "We reaffirm the importance of multilateral approaches to the issues of peace and development, and the central role of the United Nations in their treatment. We support the resolution of disputes, whether in the Middle East, in the Caribbean or elsewhere, through dialogue and negotiated settlements. We call for the end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.".
More than thirty heads of delegations raised their voices in this High Level segment of the UNGA to demand an end to this cruel policy, applied by successive US administrations against the Cuban people for six decades. The embargo is contrary to International Law and the principles and Charter of the United Nations, and has been condemned on 29 consecutive occasions within its General Assembly, by almost the entire international community.
