The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, addressed a message of congratulations to the President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
The full text of the message follows:
On the occasion of Cuba´s Día de la Liberación, I and the people of Jamaica extend warm commendations to the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba, as you mark 67 years of the triumph of the Revolution.
This day marks a defining chapter in Cuba´s long and determined pursuit of independence. As Cuba continues to strive for national self-sufficiency, I commend your nation´s commitment to fully realize its development potential, despite the ongoing economic and trade embargo.
The Caribbean region has historically benefitted from Cuba´s technical support. We greatly value Cuba´s longstanding support in the areas of health, sustainable development, education and humanitarian assistance, which have contributed to the region advancement.
As we celebrate the significance of this day, I also offer my sincere sympathies on the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, including to roads and other infrastructure in Cuba. As small, developing island nations, climate change remains an ever-present and existential threat. This growing threat demands swift, unified, and sustained global action and Jamaica will, with all partners, do our part to tackle these challenges.
Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for the well-being and prosperity of the Government and people of Cuba and the assurances of my highest consideration.
