Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has pledged to further enhance the special friendship and cooperation between Việt Nam and Cuba, building on the strong political trust and potential shared by the two nations.
During a reception with Cuban Ambassador to Việt Nam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes in Hà Nội on Wednesday, Prime Minister Hưng emphasized that the Party, Government, and people of Việt Nam deeply value the solidarity and wholehearted support Cuba has extended during Việt Nam’s struggle for national liberation and its ongoing development journey.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that both sides will continue to strengthen their unique relationship by closely coordinating the implementation of agreements reached by senior leaders, promoting exchanges of delegations at all levels, and advancing sustainable cooperation. He also proposed joint efforts to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of leader Fidel Castro in 2026, improve cooperation mechanisms between governments, ministries, and localities, and maintain close collaboration at multilateral forums.
Ambassador Polanco Fuentes welcomed the positive progress in bilateral ties, highlighting the regular exchange of high-level delegations, including the state visit to Cuba by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee and State President Tô Lâm in September 2024, and the state visit to Việt Nam by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel in September 2025. These visits marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and coincided with the 80th anniversary of Việt Nam’s August Revolution and National Day.
The Ambassador noted that cooperation in agriculture, justice, and biotechnology has been steadily expanding, with joint projects in rice cultivation, aquaculture, and food production in Cuba yielding tangible results. He reaffirmed Cuba’s view of Việt Nam as a brother, close comrade, and model of renewal and national development, stressing that Việt Nam’s socio-economic achievements serve as an inspiration for the Cuban people.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Polanco Fuentes expressed Cuba’s readiness to deepen substantive cooperation with Việt Nam, particularly in agriculture and biotechnology, and to share experiences drawn from Việt Nam’s 40 years of implementing the Đổi Mới (Renewal) process.
