Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis calls for the end of the US embargo against Cuba in the VIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honorable Dr. Terrance Drew, during his statement in the VIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held on Friday, March 1st, 2024, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, he not only joined the call made by several leaders in this framework, regarding unity and collective action to face the problems that affect our region; but once again, he emphasized the need to end the Embargo imposed by the United States government against Cuba.
The Honorable Dr. Drew expressed his solidarity with Cuba and historical gratitude for the collaboration in the field of Health. He wanted, in his speech, to express his message to Cuba, in Spanish and he did so:
(IN ENGLISH) “Excellencies, I also take this opportunity to call for an end to the economic, commercial, and financial embargo on Cuba. What is the purpose? What does it achieve? Cuba continues to be a dear friend and a committed partner. Just recently our country needed a few medical specialists, and Cuba quickly responded. The countless lives that Cuban healthcare professionals have saved cannot be counted. Despite the limitations imposed on Cuba, it has accomplished great things. Let us imagine what Cuba could accomplish if given the space to do so. It is past time to lift this unjust embargo”.
The Summit marked a crucial moment for the region's collaborative efforts towards socio-economic development and integration. Its Final Declaration includes the demand for the end of the US blockade against Cuba and the rejection of the unjustified inclusion of our country in the spurious list of States supposedly sponsoring terrorism.
