The Honourable Allen M. Chastanet, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia and Minister for Finance, Economic Growth, Job Creation, Foreign Affairs and the Public Service addressed the UN General Assembly on Friday 27th September. In his address, the Honourable Prime Minister expressed his country’s solidarity with the Cuban people and questioned the continued application of the embargo by the United States against the largest island of the Antilles.
The Prime Minister attends this 74th meeting of the General Assembly in his capacity as temporary Chairperson of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Cuba appreciates Saint Lucia’s traditional position of solidarity in rejection of this genocidal policy of the United States, which violates all international norms and which, when increased by the Government of Trump, seeks to suffocate the Cuban economy; and, therefore, it is reinforced as the main obstacle to the economic and social development of Cuba.
