BANGKOK, February 1, 2018. - The Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, reiterated the solidarity of the Asian nation with Cuba for the severe damages caused by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
Panyarak Poolthup, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom, presented the Ambassador of Cuba in Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, with the message of the Thai Government ratifying the sympathies with the Cuban people and government and communicating a contribution of 50,000 Euros in support of the recovery efforts of the largest of the Antilles.
The donation is in addition to the contribution of $ 150,000 that Thailand made in support of the efforts of the Caribbean countries to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Irma, in the framework of the High Level Meeting of the United Nations (UN) on Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
At the meeting held at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters, the representatives of both countries acknowledged the growing challenges that the effects of climate change pose for developing countries and agreed on the importance of maintaining close cooperation in the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, adopted by the international community in December 2015.
The ceremony served as a framework to ratify the good path of bilateral relations and reiterate the mutual will to continue strengthening them, highlighting the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be commemorated on May 15, 2018.
