Prime Minister of Thailand welcomes Ambassador of Cuba

BANGKOK, June 15, 2017.- The Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, was welcomed today by the Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, who reiterated the condolences of the Thai people and government for the demise on November 25, 2016 of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and thanked the messages of condolence of the Cuban people and government for the passing away on October 13th, 2016, of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special mention to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be held in May 2018.

The Prime Minister praised Cuba's achievements in education, health, science, tourism, culture and sports. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing actions and the development potential of bilateral cooperation in these fields and in particular in the area of ​​biotechnological applications for the benefit of both peoples. He called for raising the level of bilateral cooperation and exchange in the agricultural, food security, renewable energy and bilateral direct trade sectors.

The possible participation of high-level delegations from Thailand at FIHAV 2017, UNIVERSITY 2018, II International Convention on Science, Technology and Innovation and the International Convention "CUBA-HEALTH 2018 were considered as good opportunities for exchange. The Ambassador of Cuba conveyed congratulations for the good results of the Thai boxing team at the recently concluded Giraldo Cordova Cardin International Tournament in Havana.

Both sides agreed that joint efforts in medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases are an important contribution to the implementation of Thailand's Development Strategy 4.0 aimed at raising the competitiveness and sustainability of its socio-economic model, in accordance with the national philosophy of sufficient economy. It was also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining cooperation in the various multilateral forums, including those related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement for tackling climate change.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister, the government and people of Thailand for their support of the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and conveyed congratulations on the enactment, on April 6th, 2017, of the Constitution no. 20 since the end of the absolute Monarchy and the establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy in 1932.
