Kingston, Jamaica, March 26, 2022. This morning, the last of the assemblies held in Jamaica by the members of the Cuban State Mission to discuss the draft of the new Families Code was held at the Embassy of Cuba.
The meeting was led by the president of the District Electoral Commission, Professor Reynel Isalgué, and was attended by Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez and the rest of the group from the diplomatic headquarters, as well as members of the Educational Brigade stationed in Kingston.
Those present at the meeting agreed that the proposed new Family Code is an advanced and innovative document in various aspects, which covers and protects different types of family and that far from limiting or eliminating rights to citizens, it grants them to who previously did not have them. Special interest was given to the practical implementation of concepts such as parental responsibility, the best interests of the minor and their progressive development.
During the month of March, the members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands debated the document and raised almost 200 proposals for additions, deletions, modifications, declarations of support and doubts about the text of the bill. Cuban citizens who are abroad for personal reasons have also been able to contribute their proposals through this web portal.
