Mr. President,
The report presented on the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka reflects the politicized and selective practices that, regrettably, this Council has imposed on countries of the South.
Cuba reiterates its firm rejection of punitive and biased mandates adopted contrary to the will of the State concerned.
This mechanism, moreover, is intrusive and harmful to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty, and has proven to be entirely irrelevant.
The only effective way to promote and strengthen human rights is through constructive dialogue and genuine cooperation, based on impartiality, non-interference, and mutual respect.
Mr. President,
No country is exempt from challenges, and none has the authority to consider itself a paradigm in the field of human rights—much less to use them as a tool to stigmatize sovereign States.
The manipulation of human rights for political purposes is unacceptable. The peoples of the world need less interference and more cooperation and solidarity.
Cuba reiterates its firm rejection of interventionist actions that undermine Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and contribute nothing to the noble cause of human rights.
Thank you.
